At this AMERICAN ENTERPRISE INSTITUTE event

Gail Wilensky, Deputy Assistant to the President for Policy Development,

discussed proposals to reform the nation’s welfare system, which came

under attack recently as a possible contributing factor in the civil

unrest that erupted in Los Angeles in early May 1992. Ms. Wilensky

spoke on efforts to ensure that welfare recipients work to receive

their government allotment. Ms. Wilensky responded to questions from

the audience following her prepared remarks.
