Welfare Issues
Gail Wilensky, Deputy Assistant to the President for Policy Development,
discussed proposals to reform the nation’s welfare system, which came
under attack recently as a possible contributing factor in the civil
unrest that erupted in Los Angeles in early May 1992. Ms. Wilensky
spoke on efforts to ensure that welfare recipients work to receive
their government allotment. Ms. Wilensky responded to questions from
the audience following her prepared remarks.
