Winston Groom talked about his book Vicksburg, 1863 (Knopf (April 7, 2009). His book recounts the Union and Confederate confrontation at Vicksburg, Mississippi, in 1863 that the author contends was the most important battle of the Civil War. The prolonged battle resulted in the loss of thousands of soldiers as each side vied for control of the Mississippi River valley. Mr. Groom responded to questions from members of the audience. This event was a Livingston Lecture of the Atlanta History Center, held at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 15, 2009.

Winston Groom is the author of fourteen books, including Forrest Gump and Patriotic Fire. He is the co-author of Conversations with the Enemy, which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. close
