The subcommittee heard testimony on the Veterans Administration’s program for dealing with returning injured military persons from the Persian Gulf war. The Veterans Administration, which operates hospitals in the U.S. that will care for long-term patients referred from military hospitals in the Persian Gulf, prepared a program during the fall of 1990 for dealing with numbers of returning war veterans. Mr. Derwinski discussed the program of contingency backup for the U.S. military of the V.A. hospital system, and Dr. Holsinger explained the process soldiers would encounter should they be injured and be cared for by a V.A. hospital in the U.S. close
