Kristie Miller, author of Ellen and Edith: Woodrow Wilson’s First Ladies, talked about Ellen Axson, the first wife of Woodrow Wilson who died in 1914, and Edith Bolling Galt, who married the widowed president in December 1915. Ms. Miller argues it was Edith who carefully guarded access to the president and who ignited a debate that continues to this day over how much power she exerted. She responded to questions from the audience. close
