Two House subcommittees held a joint hearing on “Rendition to Torture: The Case of Maher Arar.” Testifying by remote connection, Mr. Arar, a Canadian, described being detained at JFK Airport and deported to Syria where he was imprisoned and tortured. Professor Roach testified by remote connection about a Canadian independent commission report which showed that Mr. Arar had committed no offenses. Other witnesses testified in the hearing room about the practice of extraordinary rendition, illegal interrogations, the Geneva Convention, and international law. close
