Rep. Obey took part in the 1978 debate to televise the U.S. House of Representatives. He voted for camera coverage but had mixed feelings. He thought that the people who watched would gain more knowledge but that there would be more attention paid to the flamboyant and controversial. He thinks that the institution is at a disadvantage compared to the executive branch and the Supreme Court where internal debates are not televised.
