The afternoon session of “Investing in Our Future at the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit” began with a video presentation in which Darren Walker talked about empowering girls and ending child marriage in Africa. He presented clips of films from the Ford Foundation’s JustFilms program, especially a clip of Difret, a film about an abducted child bride in Ethiopia.

The Office of the First Lady, the George W. Bush Institute, and the U.S. Department of State hosted, “Investing in Our Future at the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit,” a day-long “Spousal Program” at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts highlighting the role first spouses play and focused on the impact of investments in education, health, and public-private partnerships. It was part of the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit held in Washington from August 4-6, 2014, to strengthen ties between U.S. and African leaders. close
