Richard Norton Smith talked about tape recordings of telephone calls made by President Richard Nixon that were revealed 40 years ago. Audio clips were played from several conversations from when President Nixon was spending part of the summer of 1972 at the Camp David presidential retreat. He talked to key White House advisers about the presidential campaign against Senator George McGovern (D-SD), the war in Vietnam, and Watergate. Topics of discussion included the impact of the Nixon tapes; what the conversations say about the man and his presidency; and the political climate and issues of the day. Professor Smith responded to telephone calls and electronic communications. close
