Paul Singer talked about the role politics played in the creation and passage of the PATRIOT (Providing Appropriate Tools Required (to) Intercept (and) Obstruct Terrorism) Act, and he responded to telephone calls and electronic communications. The legislation was a response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and was designed to allow law enforcement entities and federal government agencies to more easily gather intelligence information. Mr. Singer also discussed the current-day debates over the Act’s role, especially over concerns that it allows too much information to be compiled on citizens. close
