At a committee meeting of the House Intelligence Committee, the September 11 Commission chairmen testified about their final report on the terrorist attacks and intelligence failures surrounding the attacks. They also talked about proposals to create a new head of intelligence to coordinate all intelligence agencies within the government. At the beginning of the hearing, Rep. Porter Goss (R-FL) read his letter of resignation that he had offered to the Speaker of the House. He said that while he wished to remain a member of the committee, he would step aside as chairman while proceedings for his nomination as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency moved forward. Representative Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY) chaired this hearing. close
