Secretary John Kerry and Libyan Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thinni spoke to reporters before a meeting at the State Department. They spoke about the escalating tensions and violence in Libya between rival militias, and expressed hope that the newly-elected government would be able to establish itself and move forward under more peaceful conditions.

Prime Minister al-Thinni was in Washington to attend the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit hosted by the White House August 4-6, 2014.
