Immigration experts gave presentations on elements of a new Migration Policy Institute report on the evolution of U.S. immigration enforcement since the passage of the Immigration Reform and Control Act in 1986. According to the findings of the report, the U.S. spends more on immigration enforcement than on all other principle law enforcement agencies combined. As of fiscal year 2011, the nation spent $18 billion on immigration enforcement, nearly 15 times the spending level in 1986. Following their remarks, the panelists took questions from the audience. close
