In the opening portion of a misconduct hearing to determine if Representative Traficant should be expelled from the House, Mr. Kellner and Representative Traficant offered opening statements on charges related to Representative Traficant’s April 2002 conviction on ten counts of fraud, corruption, and racketeering. In his hour-long statement Mr. Traficant claimed that he was the victim of retribution by the FBI and U.S. Justice Department for questioning their policies in the past. He also questioned the committee’s decision to disallow several witnesses on his behalf. close
