University of Hartford history professor Laurel Clark Shire looked at government policies towards Native Americans living in the southeastern United States from the late 1700s until the mid-1800s. She examined the factors that led to the removal of Indian tribes west to territories in what is today Oklahoma, and talked about how some tribes attempted to avoid removal by changing their culture to be more like that of white settlers. She also looked at armed resistance to removal by the Seminoles in Florida. This class was an hour and 25 minutes. close
