President Obama spoke about October 2009 employment figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The report found that the unemployment rate jumped to 10.2%.
In his remarks he said he had signed a bill into law that would extend unemployment benefits by up to an additional 20 weeks, cut taxes for businesses operating at a loss, and extend the tax credit for home buyers.
He also spoke about the previous day shooting at Fort Hood, Texas. He said he ordered that flags at the White House and at federal buildings would fly at half-staff in tribute.
