Panelists talked about the tensions between civil liberties and national security. They focused on the Fourth Amendment and the Third Party Doctrine. The Third Party Doctrine, a controversial rule that grew from two Supreme Court cases, says an individual who gives information to a third party loses Fourth Amendment protections, and can include a Facebook posting or phone company information.
