Two subcommittees of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs held a joint hearing titled “Calculated Risk: Assessing Non-Traditional Mortgage Products.” Witnesses testified about recent trends in lending and borrowing practices used in the housing industry, lending practices associated with interest-only loans and adjustable rate mortgages, costs to consumers of such loan programs, and subsequent problems in the sale or re-financing of homes bought under such plans. close
