Mark Krikorian, Fred Siegel, and Jason Richwine discussed Mr. Krikorian’s book, The New Case Against Immigration: Both Legal and Illegal (Sentinel; July 3, 2008). David Frum moderated.

In his portion of the discussion, Mark Krikorian summarized his book, which asserts that high immigration levels today import a 19th century workforce into a 21st-century high-tech workforce, thus lowering the wages and number of available jobs for American workers. He argued that the U.S. is no longer able to assimilate a large immigrant population, and immigration does not serve America’s interests.

Fred Siegel concurred with Mr. Krikorian’s stance and added that immigration in part contributed to the creation of the welfare state. Jason Richwine argued said that current immigrant groups are different from past groups because “they are not from Europe.” Following their remarks, panel members responded to questions from the audience.
