Mr. Weinstein interviewed Lonnie Bunch at an evening event hosted by the National Archives. Mr. Bunch is the founding director of the new National Museum of African American History and Culture, which would soon be assigned a location in downtown Washington, D.C. Following their discussion, Mr. Bunch responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. Then, Mr. Weinstein presented Mr. Bunch with a gift that included names from his family.
This talk “Remembrance and Reality: The New African American Museum” was the second of the National Archives American Conversations, a series of informal conversations between the archivist and people who’ve shaped the dialogue about the interpretation and use of American heritage. This program was co-sponsored by NARA’s Afro-American History Society.
