Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke delivered the semiannual monetary policy report to the Congress and spoke about the state of the economy and financial markets. He addressed issues such as consumer confidence, recent market fluctuations, regulatory practices, and immediate challenges facing economic policy makers.

Mr. Bernanke testified alone in this hearing and again with Treasury Secretary Paulson in the afternoon at a second hearing on the crisis in the mortgage markets. close
