Stavridis to be commander, U.S. European Command and Supreme Allied Commander, Europe; Lieutenant General Douglas M. Fraser to be commander, U.S. Southern Command; and Lieutenant General Stanley A. McChrystal to be commander, International Security Assistance Force and commander, U.S. Forces, Afghanistan.
Witnesses spoke about U.S. military operations and strategy. In his testimony, General McChrystal predicted that U.S. and allied casualties will increase as more American troops take on the insurgents in southern Afghanistan and that it would be important to make measurable progress within 18 to 24 months. He also addressed questions about detainee interrogation methods used under his command and the investigation into the death of Pat Tillman.
