Melissa Harris Perry talked about the history of race relations in the United States, comparing race relations through history with current racial politics. In her remarks she talked about African-American characters in popular culture, including the book and movie The Help. After her speech, she answered written questions submitted by audience members. The talk, “Reconstruction Lessons: Current U.S. Racial Politics and the Lessons of the Civil War,” was the year’s final Chautauqua Amphitheater Lecture. close
