Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell spoke at an event commemorating the 75th Anniversary of Marian Anderson’s Lincoln Memorial Concert. On Easter Sunday in 1939, singer Marian Anderson performed at the Lincoln Memorial. The concert was arranged by first lady Eleanor Roosevelt and Secretary of the Interior Harold Ickes after the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) refused to allow Anderson to perform at DAR Constitution Hall because she was African-American. close
