Alan Brinkley talked about his book, The Publisher: Henry Luce and His American Century. Then he was joined in a discussion on journalism and history moderated by Professor Kaplan. The panelists discussed the influence of Henry Luce, founder of Time Inc. and publisher of Time, Fortune, and Life magazines. They also looked at the influence of the Internet, and how the publishing industry, newspapers, and magazines have changed since the 1920s. The panelists responded to questions from members of the audience.

“Historians, Journalists, and the Challenges of Getting It Right, Part 2: Publishing and the American Century” was a program of the 126th annual meeting of the American Historical Association, co-sponsored by the National History Center. It was held in the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers. close
