Panelists talked about the current state of al-Qaida and its affiliates. They rejected the idea of al-Qaida being decimated or defeated. Mr. Joscelyn cautioned against thinking of al-Qaida as “just terrorists,” arguing that they were pursuing their goal of being political revolutionaries as a way to obtain political power. They also discussed the danger of blurring lines between the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and al-Qaida and what that could mean for U.S. counter terrorism efforts. They responded to questions from members of the audience. close
