Members of the House/Senate Conference Committee on the crime legislation testified to the House Rules Committee concerning the details of the measure. Late last week, House and Senate conferees finished work on the conference report to the crime bill. The Rules Committee is meeting to set up the procedures by which the bill will be considered in the House. The House is expected to vote on the bill Wednesday, the Senate vote would follow the House. The 33.2 billion dollar crime bill includes monies for 100,000 new police, prison construction and crime prevention. The bill also includes provisions that would send some 3 time felons to prison for life. The Rules Committee delayed a vote on the Rule until after another day of testimony. close
