Witnesses testified at a joint Senate hearing about the Department of Justice’s handling of the espionage case against nuclear scientist Wen Ho Lee. They explained how and why the government agreed to a plea bargain in the case, saying that they had always sought cooperation from Mr. Lee who had purposely interfered with the investigation. They added that while there was insufficient evidence to charge Mr. Lee with espionage, his actions posed a serious threat to national security. close
