President Obama awarded Marine Lance Corporal Kyle Carpenter (Ret.) with the Medal of Honor at a White House ceremony for his heroic actions during a November 2010 grenade attack in Afghanistan. President Obama told the story of how, while manning a rooftop post in the Helmand Province, Corporal Carpenter covered a grenade with his body in order to save the life of a fellow Marine. President Obama talked about Corporal Carpenter’s current activities and said that he was “a shining example of what our nation needs to encourage.” close
