U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez formally inducted into the Labor Hall of Honor approximately 12,000 Chinese immigrant laborers who worked on the Central Pacific Railroad between 1865 and 1869. Representative Grace Meng (D-NY), former Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta, and officials from the Department of Labor joined the families of the workers to honor their commitment and sacrifices. Secretary Perez said the honor was overdue to the men whose work on the Transcontinental Railroad “helped build a nation.” close
