C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2014 LCV Cities Tour” in Madison, Wisconsin, from September 19-23 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Michael Stevens talked about the role Senator Bob La Follette, Sr. played in building the Progressive Movement during the early part of the 20th century. He also talked about La Follette’s political career, and showed some of his papers, which are housed at the Wisconsin Historical Society. Robert “Fighting Bob” La Follette was a U.S. Representative, Governor, Senator, and Presidential Candidate from Wisconsin. La Follette is known as a proponent of the Progressive Movement, and has been named one of five outstanding Senators in American history.
