The House Agriculture Subcommittee on Nutrition heard testimony on hunger affecting American children. Witnesses testified on the effect of hunger and poor nutrition on American children, programs providing food to the economically disadvantaged, and proposals to improve nutrition among American youth. Subcommittee members cited statistics claiming that one in seven Americans utilize food stamps at some time in their lives, and nearly five million children in America are affected by hunger. The committee sought testimony on health problems caused by poor nutrition, the extent of hunger in the American population, how well current government programs reach American children, and why all Americans should be concerned about hunger in the United States. close
