Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Martin Dempsey honored former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with the Department of Defense’s highest award for public service. Secretary Panetta credited her with inspiring the decision to expand the role of women soldiers in combat. He noted that many of the issues facing Congress today are the same ones he and the secretary dealt with during the Clinton administration and joked about the delays in confirming former Senator Hagel as his successor. The ceremony was held in the Pentagon Auditorium. close
