Automobile industry executives from Ford, Chrysler, and General Motors testified about their request for federal financial assistance to the domestic automotive industry. They had requested a total of $34 billion in aid, an increase from the previous request of $25 billion which was previously rejected by congressional leaders without a plan to revitalize the industry. Among the topics they addressed were the impact of the economy and credit restrictions on auto sales, industry business practices, labor and union issues, as well as the potential economic impact of auto industry failure. close
