Representative Doc Hastings talked about rising gas and oil prices and whether it should tap the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Chairman Hastings plans a hearing next week (Thursday, March 17) exploring ways to develop U.S. energy resources and is expected eventually to propose expanded offshore drilling and more drilling on federal lands. He’s strong critic of the Obama Administration on energy policy, saying it has opposed expanding energy production and imposed burdensome regulations. Rep. Hastings says tapping the SPR may provide some temporary relief but does not replace the oil the Administration has “squandered due to inaction on offshore drilling permits.”
