The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies heard testimony from witnesses who both supported and opposed the legislation that would cut further federal support for public broadcasting. Public broadcasting received more than $285.5 million from the government. Republican leaders proposed eliminating federal support, and by law, privatize the Corporation for Public Broadcasting as a means to reduce the federal budget and reduce the overall size of the federal bureaucracy. close
