Secretary Rubin and Mr. Greenspan testified about the U.S. economy, saying that the trade deficit had grown more quickly than expected. They said that this did not threaten the economy in the short run because of a stable dollar, but warned that if the deficit continued to grow it could be destabilizing. They also outlined the steps they had taken to reduce the threat of another global economic crisis. close
