Adam Sieminski presented the Energy Information Administration’s annual Energy Outlook for 2014 as well as projections of U.S. energy supply, demand, and prices to 2040. He said the U.S. is closing in on producing 9.6 million barrels of oil a day, the highest since the 1970s. He also stated that if the U.S. stays on track with car fuel standards, the gap between production and demand in would decline and almost reach parity in 2040, and that natural gas would replace coal in energy production in the 2030s.

The projections focused on factors that shape the U.S. energy system over the long term, assuming that current laws and regulations remain unchanged. It also provided a basis for examination of energy production, consumption, technology, and market trends. close
