Committee members heard testimony from Secretary Pena concerning the fiscal year 1998 budget request from the Department of Energy. He outlined his goals for the next fiscal year including promoting the Department of Energy’s importance as a science and technology department. He also detailed various accomplishments of the department and research interests that the department has undertaken and wishes to continue with the help of appropriate allocations from Congress. He also answered questions concerning some administrative problems the department experienced during President Clinton’s first term. close
