Witnesses testified before the House International Relations Subcommittee regarding proposed funding for U.S. embassies. They discussed previous embassy bombings and how these embassies were not equipped with adequate security measures to prevent large losses of human life. They suggested $1.4 billion in addition to the annual State Department budget to help improve security and upgrade embassy buildings. If these funds could not be allocated, they suggested the closure of several embassies and creating regional embassies in more secure areas. close
