President Obama spoke to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) employees about the federal government shutdown. He urged House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to call an immediate vote on a clean spending bill that would reopen the government after a week-long shutdown. He also said that he was willing to discuss any issue, but would not “negotiate under the threat of further harm to our economy and middle class families.” This remarks were made during a surprise visit to FEMA’s National Response Coordination Center in Washington, D.C. close
