Drug enforcement officials testified on the illegal drug trade in Afghanistan and the future of counternarcotics efforts as U.S. military forces continued to withdraw from the country. Afghanistan’s production of opiates reached record levels in 2013, and the Taliban was receiving between $100-150 million a year from the drug trade. Among the witnesses' solutions to bring the drug trade under control were more increased Drug Enforcement Agency funding and increased involvement from the international community. close
