Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a candidate for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, spoke to reporters following a meeting with President Obama at the White House. He talked about his campaign positions and said that he would emphasize his support for statehood for the city while competing in the June 14, 2016, primary in Washington, D.C. He said that presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump would be a “disaster as president” and that he looked forward to working with Hillary Clinton to prevent that. Senator Sanders took no questions from reporters. close
