Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT), former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-MI), and former Senator James Sasser (D-TN) discussed the role of divided government. They focused on the “fiscal cliff,” that includes the expiring tax cuts and automatic spending cuts put in place by the 2011 Budget Control Act. They agreed that resolving it would require leadership, some political sacrifices, and bipartisanship from all involved. They thought it would be possible, but unlikely. Other topics included the results of the 2012 presidential election. They responded to questions from members of the audience.

“Making Government Work” was a panel of the Wall Street Journal CEO Council’s fifth annual meeting, held at the Four Seasons Hotel. close
