The House National Security subcommittee heard testimony from citizen activists, emergency management directors, and Defense Department officials on the demilitarization of stockpiled chemical munitions. The Defense Department plans to burn chemical weapons in nine states at a cost of over $11 billion. Rep. Hansen is from a state with weapons stockpiles under consideration, and he was allowed to question witnesses as a “guest member” of the subcommittee. close
