Heather Cox Richardson talked about her book, To Make Men Free: A History of the Republican Party, in which she discusses the belief, articulated by Abraham Lincoln, that government is supposed to promote economic opportunity for all. In her book, she argues that the Republican party repeatedly abandoned that principle in the 20th century. She also suggests that each time the Republican Party has promoted business interests over equality, economic collapses have forced it “back to its roots.” She talked with Weekly Standard columnist Matthew Continetti. close
