Witnesses testified about the 2012 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and the Obama administration’s response. Brigadier General Robert Lovell (Ret.) was the Africa Command intelligence deputy on duty when the Benghazi attack took place. In his testimony he apologized to the families of those lost and said more should have been done. He also said there was a sense of desperation while waiting for guidance from the State Department. The hearing followed the release of White House e-mails showing how the Obama administration tried to shape its response to the attack. The hearing, titled “Benghazi, Instability, and a New Government: Successes and Failures of U.S. Intervention in Libya,” also covered broader concerns about such as the removal of Gadhafi and the current situation. close
