The House Transportation Subcommittee on Aviation heard testimony on the economic status and stability of the U.S. airline industry. Committee member Representative John Hammerschmidt (R-Arkansas) stated that airline losses for 1990 amount to $2 billion, due to rising costs of fuel and labor and reduced traffic from fears of terrorism and the recession. Transportation Secretary Samuel Skinner discussed the current financial situation in the airline industry, and policy proposals to deal with the economic crisis facing the airline industry. close
