Historian Robert Singletary talked about Coeur d’Alene, Idaho’s Fort Sherman, and the few remaining buildings that made up Fort Sherman including the oldest building in the city of Coeur d’Alene. General William T. Sherman ordered a fort constructed on the site in the 1870s. The town of Coeur d’Alene grew along with the fort, until it was closed in 1898. Only three original buildings remain on the site of Fort Sherman. North Idaho College is now located on the site.
