Curators Sidney Hart and Rachael Penman talked about a unique exhibition of portraits and objects representing the major personalities involved in the War of 1812. The collection was assembled at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery from the United States, Canada and Great Britain. They spoke about the significance of the war, its role in establishing a national identity, and the personalities that became American “heroes” as a result of their actions in the war.
