Doris Kearns Goodwin talked about the way a leader’s private life affects his public actions at the 5th Annual Abraham Lincoln Institute Symposium. Ms. Goodwin analyzed the private life of Abraham Lincoln and three other contenders for the presidency in 1860: Salmon Chase, William Seward, and Edward Bates. The event was held at The Library of Congress. Following her remarks, Ms. Goodwin took questions from the audience.
